The Dec/Jan 2009 Dwell magazine issue features a Toronto home made out of scrap metal and other scrap materials designed by James Campbell. The result is very impressive and unique. Here is an older article about the same house unfortunately without the great pictures that Dwell has. I am loving the tile work behind the stove here. If you are working with surplus or re-claimed materials and you cannot get enough of the same tile to cover the desired area, what a great option! You can mix and match and it will look great. If you collect enough of a similar type of tile or different tiles in the same color, you can totally do this. I’m sure this is a bit labor intensive, but if you put your mind to it, I think the result would be a lovely modern tile mosaic.
