Fascinating Facets

faceted carrige

faceted menXavier Veilhan’s show at Versailles was spectacular. I wish I could have seen it in person. Remember the facets motif trend?

Not to downplay Xavier’s work by any means, there is always a circular relationship in fine art, fashion, interior and furniture design. I particularly like his faceted men statues. Of his project, Xavier states, “This is a project that is dynamic, classical, open and universal, aiming to establish a new bond between visitors to the place and the spaces they come into contact with.”

Phone Book Table

phone book table

A few months ago, we received a large delivery of phone books at work. To my dismay no one wanted them and I feel sad to say I don’t know what happened to them, I think they were trashed. Gasp. More recently I came upon this wonderful creation in a friend’s Ready Made book. I wish had seen it or thought of this earlier. I would have loved to save all those books and feel like I brought a bunch of puppies home from the shelter.

Headboards DIY

giant_print_rect540

Remember this headboard DIY? I’m always on a look out for fun headboard ideas. Apartment Therapy has a post on improvised headboards. These are my top two. They also have one with a chalkboard. I like the look of the chalk board, but I don’t really want chalk shavings on my pillows. I do, however, very much like the dramatic effect of the mirror and my absolute favorite is the giant painting of clothes hanging out to dry.

Better Homes and Gardens has nineteen headboard inspirations. These are the top three in my book. I particularly like the salvaged mantle and I’m a little on the fence about the hanging cushion. To weird? Or cozy in the country?

Inspirations from the Screen

apartment on Chuck

Otherwise known as hulu in my home. While I don’t have a tv, I do sometimes feel the need to kick back with some hulu. I was feeling sick yesterday and ended up checking out the tv show Chuck, where Chuck is an unlikely and somewhat unwilling spy who is too sensitive to be the typical stoic bond type character. His love interest and fellow spy lives in this adorable apartment. I had to take a snapshot for inspiration. A number of things seem to be from Brocade Home. The mirrored walls remind me of what Gervasoni does with mirrors and furniture. I like the white and silver color scheme with a touch of that beautiful green.

Black and Gold Color Scheme

black paint

Black walls are a huge trend. Do you know anyone who has actually implemented it in their own home? A modern way of pulling off a black and gold color scheme seems to be the fun, new frontier. Here are some examples. By the way I am still so in love with algue and this is a beautiful example of how to enjoy it in front of a non-working fireplace (from Apartment Therapy). And what do you think…is black and gold good for the club or good for the home?

Wik & Walsoe Porcelain

elf porcelain

Staying with the topic of elves…my husband’s best friend is Norwegian and their beautiful little family sent us one of these for Christmas. I have fallen in love with the Wik & Walsoe cup. We have the little short one and I am using it as a sugar bowl and the white sugar looks like pixy dust in this elf cup. The inscription on the box said, “We all need dreamscapes…The elfin symbolizes dreams, hope and the belief in making the impossible come tru. They are joyful, noble-minded and master skillful in handicraft. The Elfins are the angles of nature; smart and strong helpers for mankind and earth.”

When are the holidays over?

advent calendar

When do you take down your winter holiday decor? While we seem to be settled back into our jobs and responsibilities, I must confess to not letting go of a few holiday reminders. For one thing, my guilty pleasure, the Christmas Village is still up in full glory (fake snow and all). It is something I allow myself in an otherwise style-conscious home. Additionally I gave this Scandinavian advent calendar to my husband and while I was sad that I didn’t give it to him earlier, I decided to use it for the next twenty-five days to keep the spirit of the holidays going for a bit longer. When are the holidays truly over for you? Are they ever over?
