My friend Cait, shared this discovery with me. This chandelier by Stuart Haygarth is made out of discarded eye glass lenses. I love the placement of individual lenses such that together they produce the spherical, floating shape. You can apply this same principal to create one yourself out of other materials. Remember these other lamp diy's? Check them out for inspiration for how materials can come together for a new found function.

Browse Banksy’s work and you might be inspired. I am seeing this as a great example for a continued discussion of how fine art influences interior design and vice versa.

I discovered this piece many years ago and it marks the beginning of my love of installation art and later interior design.

Ann used a canopy of red-orange silk and fans to create a hovering effect. Below the fabric, six male peacocks traversed the floor. Through the opening in the fabric, a pole led up to the roof of the space where a man perched on a seat, continuously wound blue type-writer ribbon extending from a porcelain ring in the ground. When the mound would enlarge around his hand, he would cut it off and let it drop to the floor and continue the process. When the ink ribbon ball falls to the ground, it marks and splatters blue, echoing the blue in the peacocks’ presence.
What is “mattering.” Elaine Scarry writes for Literature and the Body, “The notion of consequence” of “mattering,” is nearly inseparable from the substantive face of “matter.” Or, phrased in the opposite direction, when “matter” goes from being a noun to being an active verb-when we go from saying of something that “it is matter” to saying “it matters”-then substance has tilted forward into consequence. What matters (what signifies, what has standing, what counts) has substance: mattering is the impingement of a thing’s substance on whatever surrounds it.

I love her choice of colors and it seems any combination of these fabrics and colors look great together.

There are some really impressive things one can do by making precise incisions on paper. Thinking about the concept of cutting and thus creating negative space got me contemplating how that can translate into furniture, accessories or lighting. Just in time I came across Cathrine Kullberg’s work.

This lamp is a perfect example of achieving both an object and an experience through cutting and thus texturing the surface. Her delicate depiction of a forest line is perfect for this woodsy lamp. How about having it in a room with these sheets?
Actually I think it stands on its own and would be best served in a contrasting space as pictured here.

How lovely. ‘Stelo’ by Rosaria Rattin is 148 GBP and is probably my favorite pick. Rosaria Rattin’s created Kose in Milan. I love the almost tribal design and the elongated shape is really eye catching.
