<p>This works best if you have tall ceilings. If they are framed, what about hanging your prized posters and pictures such that they create a wall divider? You would put in little hooks on the bottom of each frame and suspend a little chain or cable down to the next one and so on.</p>
<p>If you are not hanging them in front of a window (as seen here), but actually as a room divider, you can cut pieces of wallpaper and glue them to the back of your frames such that both sides would be pleasant to look at.</p>
<p>You can also rest them on the window sill. If unframed and untextured, you can spread them out on a dining table or work desk and place a large piece of glass on top.</p>
<p>Or here&#8217;s kind of a crazy one, but I like it if you have the space and the money. You can build a Plexiglass or acrylic platform and place the art works underneath. You can put your creation in front of your couch, sort of like a low coffee table meets platform.</p>

It hangs in the lobby of the 924 Westwood Plaza in Los Angeles.</p>
<p>Steve Schmidt created The Crysanthemum out of plastic containers and zip ties. It is 60&#8243;x60&#8243; and it is breathtaking. It has caught my eye when I walked on Westwood Blvd before and I always wanted to find out more about it. It looks so soft and supple and even when looking at it up close, it is hard to believe that it is made out of milk containers and plastic zip ties.</p>
<p>I think something like this would also look great in a more organic amoeba-like shape or in a long, horizontal rectangle. People are also doing some incredible things with plastic bags these days. This art piece was created in 2007.</p>

You already have a smooth <a href="http://www.modernests.com/2009/03/design-challenge-diy-wall-decor-above.html"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(204, 102, 0);">couch and table and pillows</span></a>. I think you need to throw in something that will pop. That being said, the possibilities are endless.</p>
<p>I think you can do some really fun stuff with <span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-weight: bold;">felt </span>and you get a choice of natural or bright colors. Check out this site for <span style="color: rgb(204, 102, 0);">felt </span><a style="color: rgb(204, 102, 0);" href="http://www.annekyyroquinn.com/">inspiration.</a><span style="color: rgb(204, 102, 0);"> </span>Amazing work. You can work with a sewing machine or with a glue gun. Particularly take a look at the <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(204, 102, 0);"><a href="http://www.annekyyroquinn.com/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(204, 102, 0);">wall panels</span>.</a></span></p>
<p>You can also do some fun stuff with <span style="font-weight: bold;">fabric panels</span>. Here is a step by step for how to <a style="color: rgb(204, 102, 0);" href="http://howaboutorange.blogspot.com/2007/10/how-to-make-fabric-panel-wall-art.html">make one</a><span style="color: rgb(204, 102, 0);">. </span> I like the idea of grouping a few smaller panels together or you can go for one large one for effect. You can always stick other materials or pieces of fabric on the panel for added texture.</p>
<p><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_hA_SG399GNQ/SbCJqP8e88I/AAAAAAAABHw/0K3962DjaWg/s1600-h/collections+wall+art.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 294px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_hA_SG399GNQ/SbCJqP8e88I/AAAAAAAABHw/0K3962DjaWg/s320/collections+wall+art.jpg" alt="collections+wall+art Design Challenge: DIY Wall Decor Above Sofa MODERnestS responds" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5309895319597544386" border="0" title="Design Challenge: DIY Wall Decor Above Sofa MODERnestS responds" /></a>I am also a firm believer in sticking things onto walls that do not traditionally belong there. By way of putting something up, it draws attention and highlights it as an <span style="font-weight: bold;">object for observation</span>. This can produce some fun effects. It is also a chance to showcase your interests and personality. Check out some things people collect and put up on their <a style="color: rgb(204, 102, 0);" href="http://www.shelterrific.com/2008/03/21/reader-collection-showcase-how-now-design/">walls. </a>I think the key is to pick a similar object in different colors or different objects and paint them all one color.</p>
<p>In addition to playing with fabrics and objects, there is always the option of <span style="font-weight: bold;">shelves</span>. Additionally you can do some playing around with <span style="font-weight: bold;">sticks</span>. The sticks sculpture pictured here is actually a <a style="color: rgb(204, 102, 0);" href="http://www.chiasso.com/store/item.aspx?DepartmentId=103&amp;ItemId=54821">floor sculpture</a> but I like the idea of hanging sticks clustered together horizontally above the couch. I did some playing around with sticks of my own and will post the result soon. <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_hA_SG399GNQ/SbCO0oYnLCI/AAAAAAAABII/NSNJnbN4BI4/s1600-h/sticks.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 142px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_hA_SG399GNQ/SbCO0oYnLCI/AAAAAAAABII/NSNJnbN4BI4/s320/sticks.jpg" alt="sticks Design Challenge: DIY Wall Decor Above Sofa MODERnestS responds" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5309900995514805282" border="0" title="Design Challenge: DIY Wall Decor Above Sofa MODERnestS responds" /></a></p>
