Felt Baskets

[gallery link="file" columns="2"]

After playing around with the first attempt at the felt basket, here are my next two designs. I am quite pleased with how they’ve turned out. So I hope my recipients will like them too. They were relatively easy and fun to sew. From cutting to end result two and a half hours at most. Here are the original inspirations.

Paper Light

light diy

I assume this is a light and it reminds me of this one…I still very much like this idea. Remember these fun paper airplane clusters I spotted at Anthropologie? Another great way to put newspaper to use.

For the ceiling installation pictured here I like the idea of contacting a local printer for their colorful scraps to mix in with white notes.

Newspaper Walls and DIY Coffee Table

newspaper walls

Remember the original newspaper walls post? Here’s a new fabulous example from emmas design blog. We saw these as accent walls before, I like the fact that this one has wall art on top of the newspaper so that newspaper is more of the backdrop (or wallpaper) rather than an accent (although it certainly makes a statement either way). I like that it is a Japanese paper. How fun!

The coffee table reminds me of one I’ve been obsessed with for some time and vow to make one day. You can see it here in its original post.

Hinged Bench DIY

I spotted this bench at Housefish and fell in love with the simple and adjustable design. I am inspired to make this for my yard or house. This would be a fun one to paint one color on one side and another color on the other and make it reversible somehow. I love that you can fold it flat and stand it against a wall, so maybe it can possibly serve as both wall art and seating (sort of like the pick-chair). I wish I thought of this simply brilliant bench design, especially because I’m already bench obsessed.

Modern Sofa Hack

imp1_rect540

I’m always on the look out for great furniture pieces that I can get inspired by and potentially make something similar myself. I love the simplicity and design of this day bed by Vladimir Kagan. It seems like a perfect IKEA hack to me.

I would love to use these bed legs for the bottom. The entire bed can also become the bottom to place the tufted mattress on. You can tuft one of the ikea mattresses. Here’s how to tuft a cushion. You can apply the same idea to a mattress or foam pad. I would like to use IKEA table tops for the two sides. For the back, you can buy foam rolls at a local fabric or craft store and glue the rolls together to the desired size. In my experience, they stay glued well if you use a glue gun. You can then sew a single cover for them and voila!

My Felt Basket

basket 1

So I tried my hand at my first trial basket and here’s the result. Because the felt I already had was the thiner type from the fabric store, I decided to double up on the felt and quilt it for sturdiness. I like the quilting effect, but not a fan of the overall shape. What do you think? How do I improve this design?

Felt Baskets

felt baskets

This Christmas I am determined to make as many Christmas presents as possible. One of the things I’d like to make are felt baskets. For inspiration I browsed and found various design variations. These are my top four picks. The first one with the downturned edges and cut outs for handles is the Netto Felt Basket. The second set is from Pia Wallen. The orange one is available via Remodelista. I have one of the weaved baskets by Design Ideas. I snagged it from Ross, but it is said to have been available through Room and Board in the past.

Clothespin Uses

clothespins

Yesterday’s post got me thinking about clothespin uses. I’ve seen a few over the years from refrigerator magnets to well…drying clothes. These are a few uses that can spruce up your home and give you some fun DIY projects. The clothespin rack dryer can make for a cool light using a similar concept to Pottery Barn’s lamp. Or you can make a lamp by pinching the clothespins together. A fun project would be to paint and design your pins, put a magnet in the back and gift them to your loved ones. Once your clothespins are magnetic, you can place them on various metallic surfaces including this wall art displayed featured on Apartment Therapy a few months ago.

Lack Side Table Hacks

lack side table hackI’ve been impressed by various lack side table hacks I’ve seen over the years. This one help you organize your desk spaces by providing a few elevated surfaces. I’ve also heard of twelve lack side tables making for a bed and my personal idea and favorite is to have a corner, L-shaped bench out of six or seven lack side tables of different colors covered by one L-shaped cushion. Creating something like this.
