Wall paper is such a huge trend, but it is a one that, at times, requires a huge budget.  This dilemma begs for an alternative such as this – wall stenciling!  When browsing for decorating ideas for my sister-in-law’s new Seattle abode, we stumbled upon Cutting Edge Stencils on Etsy.  I love the selection and I cannot wait to go to Seattle to stencil an accent wall in her living room.  The plan is to do white on cream for a subtle, but rich and detailed look.  This is the stencil of choice for her living room.

Modular furniture has been around for some time now, but modular rugs? I am really impressed by these creations. I came across this amazing land peel rug on designboom.  It converts to a few seats and tables.  I can definitely see the appeal of this rug for a family room more so than a living room.

The land peel rug also led me to this student project. I love the colors and the execution of the shapes seen here below.  For my taste this is a bit more living room friendly where I can still have my regular furniture around it and offer some alternative floor seating for additional guests or kids.

If you are going to attempt one of these yourself, make sure you address the questions of creatures living inside the stump and splinters hurting people who will sit on them. For bugs, the ideal thing to do is to find a lumber kiln and ask them to "bake" the stumps. This will extract moisture and kill any bugs they may contain. Also I've heard that after a tree is cut, the stumps that were located closest to the ground tend to have the most bugs. After this you want to strip the bark, sand it and seal it. One sealing option is epoxy. It would be fun to paint them different colors too.]]> tree stump seats

This is a shortlist pick from The World of Interiors. I particularly like the ‘Shade’ vase by Front Design. It is however 1000 GBP. Therefore I consider it a sort of couture of modern vases. If only Rossana Orlandi worked for cheaper. ‘Les Oiseaux’ is 71 GBP and it is the bird vase by Ligne Roset. How lovely. ‘Stelo’ by Rosaria Rattin is 148 GBP and is probably my favorite pick. Rosaria Rattin’s created Kose in Milan. I love the almost tribal design and the elongated shape is really eye catching.

The gorgeous West Elm lamp, the Dominique Jacob and Brendan MacFarlane No End Sofa. I particularly love the little dessert platter by Achim Haigis for Rosenthal. The table has a great name. It is the Kooh-I-Noor table by Piero Lissoni. Marcel Wanders is the creator of the mulit-faceted faucet. He created this piece as part of an Aqua Jewels line for Bonomi.
