To paint or not to paint that seems to be the question these days. I've read a number of posts on the topic of whether one should paint brick or leave it and what colors seem to work best. Seeing as how I just painted my brick fireplace white, I am less reluctant to paint brick than other people seem to be. The way I see it is...if the brick is in good shape, by all means enjoy it. If it drags your place down, then a few coats of paint can transform the entire room beautifully (as I've seen it to be the case at my place). These are some of my favorite painted brick examples.

I love this bench and the idea that this bench has DIY written all over it. This entry way is a part of Apartment Therapy's home tour of a Boston residence. I am inspired to start collecting different, eccentric legs and see what happens.

This faux fireplace is another great contribution to Apartment Therapy. This couple stained plywood different colors and glued the entire thing together. They topped the fireplace with a fine piece of wood for an enriching effect.
