Look what I found at the lumber yard! Are these not the perfect wood block side tables? This pictures was in Ready Made as a guide for making this head board. I love the simplicity of the side tables. And if it is something I can buy at the lumber yard, [...]

Atypyk objects help create a-typic experiences in your space. Have you seen the work of Atypyk? Pictured here are the “fix the salad” tongs and the “can you bear it?” entry rug. I also like this cutting board which professes to be the “cutting board of the year.” Clumsy coaster is [...]

Isn’t it enchanting? From the door, to the staggered logs, to the log bench with crisp white linens it breathes the perfect ancient, Viking retreat. I love this porch. It is almost like something out of a historic movie, but somehow still current. The rug really grounds and warms up the space.

Bringing driftwood into a space is a great way to introduce something organic and sculpturally beautiful. West Elm is the king of driftwood in their staging for the catalogue. The organic lines of driftwood are a great juxtaposition for the otherwise strongly angular modern furniture. Its porous nature livens the senses to a rich, natural texture.
My own driftwood is the one on the white shelf in the first picture. It will always remind me of the camping trip by the river where I found it. I love the idea of bringing what I would call experience objects from the outside world into the home. I feel like doing that really enriches the space and the experience of the space.
For some amazing lamps and pieces of furniture made using driftwood, check out this impressive post. These pieces are the children of french based Bleu nature. I love everything they’re doing! Browse their site.
I can’t forgo discussing sticks when discussing driftwood. Check out our reader Khalilah’s DIY stick sculpture. View her original post and the MODERnestS response here and here.

I was awakened to cork a few years ago when I saw the now-sold-out cork ottoman at West Elm. I have a set of old closet doors that I have considered covering in cork and here are some fun ideas and steps for playing around with cork in your own space.
I love the wall art piece made out of wine bottle corks cut to varying heights. The round potholders are fun to hang in a haphazard pattern. You can get a set of three in varying sizes for $8.99 at Target or at IKEA. You can buy a thin roll of cork at your local hardware store and attach it to any wall or flat surface. I can imagine a horizontal or vertical strip on a living room or family room wall working pretty well. You can spruce up an old piece of furniture with cork too…and you get the pleasure of being able to decorate it as seen on this credenza. If you would like to see the step by step for making this cork lamp, check out this post on design*sponge.
