Speakers Book Shelf?

speakers wall

Boombox has captured my heart in more ways than one. Watching this insanely popular SNL short on hulu, the speakers wall caught my eye and sparked an idea for a fun book shelf. What if you stacked old speakers in a haphazard fashion, attached them to your wall, and hallowed some of them out creating spaces to store your books.

Lack Side Table Hacks

lack side table hackI’ve been impressed by various lack side table hacks I’ve seen over the years. This one help you organize your desk spaces by providing a few elevated surfaces. I’ve also heard of twelve lack side tables making for a bed and my personal idea and favorite is to have a corner, L-shaped bench out of six or seven lack side tables of different colors covered by one L-shaped cushion. Home Organization: Color Coding Books

color coded books

Would you color code your books? I’ve seen a lot of discussions on the topic. From Shelterrific’s post off to Apartment Therapy’s reality check on color coding. The Boston writers clue us in about having to shift the entire set of books row by row whenever adding a book of a particular color. The result of Apartment Therapy’s post off on color coding books reveals the following results: A large number of people arrange their books by means other than color. Color is their second choice, while size is the next most popular consideration. Few arrange their books alphabetically and some use the Dewey Decimal System.

Happy Mundane proposes using color paper to homogenize the look of the books on the shelf in a fun way. I think one of the tricks is to leave extra space on each shelf for future books. You can use the left over space to display cool pottery, vases or other collections. My personal favorite is color coded books arranged in piles and placed on the shelves horizontally instead of vertically. This creates triangles of color and leaves room for book additions. The only trick is that you need a shelf that is wide enough to accommodate a horizontal arrangement. Like the ones seen below from Dwell’s October 09 edition.
