Thanksgiving Dinner Decor

p_101277059If you hate to listen to uncle Bernie fighting with auntie Gretta because they’re sitting next to each other at your Thanksgiving swaray, but you don’t want to bust out the formal name place cards you can achieve your desired seating plan with a more subtle and decor-conscious approach. You can write your guest names on leafs, attach a string and loop them around the glass stems on the table.

Doily Placemats from visualingual

Visualingual just shared these screen printed Plexiglas placemats and I have two say that I love them for two reasons. Re-purposing old gas station number signs is a fabulous idea and my love of modern takes on the old doilies spreads far and wide and includes these placemats available through Etsy. Remember these doily rugs? My heart still pitter-patters for them.

Feng Shui Design School

Feng suiWe’ve all heard of it, but do we really know what it means? The Sheffield School offers a course in Feng Shui Interior Design in addition to the Complete Interior Design and Wedding and Event Planning. According to the Sheffield School of design, Feng Shui is about de-cluttering and adhering to a minimalist overall appearance. Have you ever had a guest over and they say to you, “oh so you’re like a minimalist”? It doesn’t mean you’re totally practicing the principles of Feng Shui, but you have a clean, modern nest. If modern is not your thing, apparently Feng Shui is compatible with virtually any style of interior design. This is kind of a revelation to me personally. As I understand, the study of Feng Shui can be quite complicated, but you can apply a few simple principles for finding the optimal position for your bed. You might be surprised to know that you do not have to rotate your bed east, west or north, but you can create a comforting space to sleep in relationship to the bedroom door. Photo source

Wall Decor

wall decor chalk boardI spotted this beautifully framed chalkboard at an antique store in a little mountain town of Running Springs in Southern California. This is an old mirror frame, with a piece of plywood inside painted with chalkboard paint. If you have a broken mirror, this is a great way to put it to use. I can imagine this looking great in just about any room in the house.

What a great rolling coat rack from Design*Sponge. Here are some ideas for sprucing up a hallway from apartment therapy. How about this spouting shelf for the entryway? I absolutely love it and I love that the little bear in the picture is looking up at the sprouts. Cute!
