Anthropologie never fails to amaze me with beautiful, simple installations. I love the simplicity of the concept of birds nailed to the wall and floating on the nails. The only drawback is this might not be something you want to do unless you know you love it and want it for a while as it is bound to leave some serious nail holes behind.

Anthropologie never fails to amaze me with beautiful, simple installations. I love the simplicity of the concept of birds nailed to the wall and floating on the nails.

I also love that they used different types of paper. The subtle color differences help create a sense of texture when you’re looking at the wall as a whole.

The only drawback is this might not be something you want to do unless you know you love it and want it for a while as it is bound to leave some serious nail holes behind.

So I decided to try and make this stencil and test it out on my walls and here's the result. I printed a brocade stencil pattern on four sheets of paper. Then I placed strips upon strips of clear packing tape covering the paper front and back with some overlap. Then I took to the exacto knife. It was definitely time consuming to get all the details just right. I used a four inch foam roller to apply the paint on top of the stencil. It is important that the roller be almost dry. Too much paint can get in the way. This would probably be faster with four hands, but if you're doing this by yourself (as I did), then just use masking tape to hold the stencil in place while you apply the paint and then move it as necessary. I feel like the bedroom looks fresh and new and it actually feels like I'm on vacation in a hotel somewhere. You might also notice that the chair rescue turned new shaggy black stool is now a shaggy black side table. It is almost nest like with that round light on top.

This little windowshopping experience revealed this fun wall and it reminded me of Mike Miller's wall art at West Elm.

I'm used to seeing black silhouettes on white backgrounds and these example of inverse silhouettes are a great way to bring in natural or neutral tones. I love cream and black together.

Did you know that Sebastian John Ross is known as the "Silhouette Man." He devoted his life to creating silhouettes. Here is a great tribute to him and his work.

I spotted this wall installation at a lingerie shop in the Century City mall in LA. What a clever way to show off their merchandise. You can borrow this concept for creating an accent wall in your home by stenciling on a variations on a design of choice.

We've all done it. Look through a glass when we drink from it. I loved looking through mine so much this past weekend, that I decided to snap some photos through the glass. Pictured above is a photo of a window and blinds, but with the distortion of shooting the picture through the side of a drinking glass, the image is distorted and blurred in an interesting way, taking on the form of water almost. I think this type of prints would look great in a modern home. If you try it, send me your pics and I'll post them.

Boombox has captured my heart in more ways than one. Watching this insanely popular SNL short on hulu, the speakers wall caught my eye and sparked an idea for a fun book shelf. What if you stacked old speakers in a haphazard fashion, attached them to your wall, and hallowed some of them out creating spaces to store your books.

Remember the original newspaper walls post? Here's a new fabulous example from emmas design blog. We saw these as accent walls before, I like the fact that this one has wall art on top of the newspaper so that newspaper is more of the backdrop (or wallpaper) rather than an accent (although it certainly makes a statement either way). I like that it is a Japanese paper. How fun!

The coffee table reminds me of one I've been obsessed with for some time and vow to make one day. You can see it here in its original post.
Related Blogs

Daily DIY Network - Science Projects Plans Guides » Blog Archive ...

I came across these paper cut out creations mounted on different colors of Plexiglas at the music and arts library in La Jolla, California.

These creations would make for fun wall decor. I love the simple, graphic representations and they just pop out from their colorful backgrounds.

It looks like each piece of Plexiglas is attached to the next with a metal loop. A few strands of these would also make for a fun room divider.

Some store window shopping brings new inspiration. The corner of Barney's in LA had this display for a few weeks with random found objects placed inside the frames. By way of framing something and putting it on a wall you're instantly elevating it as an object to look at and observe while instantaneously stripping it of its originally assigned function. Form and function is something I think about a lot in contemporary furniture design and interior design in general. What objects have you seen transformed?
